The Dark Side of People

Recognise that you have a dark side and keep it in check.

I believe that we all have a dark side. If we had no laws, no boundaries, no restrictions, no moral compass, we would all go nuts doing whatever we want. Of course, there are people in the world who do act like they made themselves i.e. can do whatever they want with no repercussions. And some do walk away with impunity. The more they get away with their behaviour, the more empowered they become. Look around you. We see it in society all the time.

But we all have a dark side that we successfully keep in check with help from extrinsic and intrinsic factors. What happens, though, if circumstances cause us (is that too mild a word), force us to step outside of our 'fence'? Those thoughts were my fuel for writing Dark Energy. We are presented with a good girl when we first meet Jackie, but after all that she goes through, something in her changes. You can judge her if you want to, but what if it were you? What if you encountered one or more situations that affected your thinking or your view of life? What would you do? Stand firm? Change? You often hear people saying "If that were me, I would . . . " and they rattle off what they would do. But how do you know for sure what you would do if you were in a desperate situation?

Recognise that you have a dark side and continue to keep it in check. We don't want that thing getting loose and tearing down the place. A desperate circumstance may cause it to peep out, but stuff it back down. That cannot have a place in your world. As for Jackie . . . you have not heard the last of her and her dark energy.
